Kathy Small has a large ridge-top garden on the edge of Walla Walla. The front is unassuming, but out back she's created multiple outdoor living areas with lots of seating to take advantage of sun or shade as the mood strikes. There's a simply-constructed Japanese tea house that provides a focal point. Behind a tall Arborvitae hedge is a tidy vegetable garden and ample potting shed.
