Joyce Smith gardens in an unusual location -- the edge of the airport outside the small town of Brewster at the confluence of the Okanogan and Columbia Rivers. Her garden is extensive and many parts are on nearly pure sand. With irrigation, her garden is lush and nearly overflowing with plants.
